Whenever there’s fear mongering to be done, Lou Dobbs is on the job. Whenever there’s an accusation to be made that would insult the intelligence of anyone with a higher IQ than mold, Dobbs is your man.
Health experts are all saying that closing the border is futile – especially since the virus was already on both sides of the border before it was detected.
Even if it wasn’t, you already have people sneaking across by the thousands. You could stop *most* of them, if you had started with a major commitment to do so some time last year. But even they’re irrelevant in this case:
You have probably tens of thousands more Americans in Mexico on vacation, business, or living there – and they’ll want (and get) the right to return. (Dunno the Mexican stats, but about half a million people living in Canada were eligible to vote in the 2004 American election – either Canadians with dual citizenships or Americans living in Canada. This exceeds the number of eligible voters in several American states. Mexico probably has similar numbers.
And the virus already had already gone international – by air. You’d need to close ALL borders. Simply put, a closed border would look little different from an open border, until long after it was too late.
The SPP document is about coordination in events like a virus outbreak that ignores borders. In other words, when the border is already irrelevant. Nice try, Dobbs.
As for Dobbs’s “North American Union”, he’s has been pandering to those in the tinfoil hat crowd who can’t put two brain cells together to think about it, let alone research the idea for themselves, for at least three years.
It’s a hoax. That is, while it’s a real idea from private lobbyists (YOU TOO can promote such ideas with no less authority), the idea that it’s coming is fiction. Dobbs and the conspiracy theory crowd have yet to identify a single elected official in the US or Canada who wants it. They’ve yet to identify any sign of legislation for it coming down the pipeline in Canada or the US. They’ve yet to come up with a credible reason why Canada would join it. Both the US and Canada seem content with the existing trade union and security agreements.
