There is no point in going that close to the US, unless the strategy is to allow the US Military to record and analyze Russian Submarine noise emissions and then input this data into every US Submarine Sonar database so the Russian Navy will lose every advantage it has against its potential "friends".

But it makes great PR for the idiot bureaucrats in Moscow("look we can go shake our fists at America again!"). The fact that they were detected already should be a warning that PR Campaigns for popularity of the United Russia Party only undermine Russia's security.

I don't blame them at all for their suspicion of Americans. After Bush went on TV and lied about how Russia attacked Georgia. I would love it if they used their might and set Israel straight about how to treat the Palestinians and maybe gave them a big dose of their own bad medicine (but not centered on civilians, just military and idiot government)!
